Dear Family,

When the month of November began, I was filled with a sense of dread knowing the day of Dad's passing would arrive. It began a series of days, and even more so, nights, filled with gloom.  It is a difficult thought process to think that you could have done something to save someone's life and did not do it.  I have had to fight this thought from Satan many times and this is what I was doing. It is a matter of exercising faith even when it is really hard!!  On the night of the 20th I went to the Lord and asked for strength to make it through the next day.  He answered my prayer as I woke with such a calm and have been able to feel that calm even now.

I do know, through many tender mercies given to me, that it was Dad's time to be released from this world and be part of that great teaching team on the other side of the veil.  I know he was welcomed with open arms and is so happy to be freed from his life of diminished capacity and is doing a great work in the Spirit World.  I  am so grateful for this wonderful Plan of Salvation that we are able to be part of and for the Savior's part in redeeming us.

The Utah kids were down on the 21st.  We spent some time at the cemetery and then I read some notes that you kids had given to Dad which I believed Christian sent pictures of.  I found a card that I had given to Dad and want to put those words here as a remembrance of him.

Mom about Dad

The card states: For the Wonderful Man I Love

In a world where a lot of people settle for the ordinary, you're an exceptional man who has the kind of integrity others can admire and respect.

In a world where a lot of people take more than they give, you're a caring man who is willing to reach out and do your best for others.

In a world where a lot of people make do with imitations, you're a real man who is honest and gentle, yet strong in all the ways that really matter.

I added: In a world where a lot of people take the easy road, you're a working man not always doing the thing you love, but providing a nice living for us.

In a world where a lot of people are in the world only for themselves, you are an unselfish man willing to make the world better by giving your time to help out.

In a world where a lot of people are choosing wrong, you are a righteous man defining the world around you by making right choices yielding right consequences.

In a world where a lot of people refuse to forgive, you're a man who says sorry many times when it's really my need to do so.

In a world where a lot of people don't have families, you're a generous man allowing us to raise 5 wonderful boys and 5 tremendous girls.

In a world where a lot of people just complain about the situation, you're a patient man giving everyone a chance, even a second one, to grow and get things right.

In a world where a lot of people are filthy and crude, you are a clean man allowing those around you to feel refreshed from the ills of society.

In a world where a lot of people seem to know it all, you are a humble man who knows so much, but does not act in arrogant ways.

In a world where a lot of people are sad, you are a humorous man bringing laughs, smiles, and joys to those within your voice range.

Card: In a world where a lot of people never find the right person to love, I feel so blessed that I have you in my life.  I love you.

Me: I'm so happy and grateful to have found you in this world.

End of card

I am so happy to have found Dad in this world.  One of the regrets that I have is not just sitting and holding his hand!

Don't forget those little things like hugging, kissing and hand-holding!

Love,

Mom

July 27, 1959 — November 21, 2024

Ephraim, Utah

Phillip Martin Allred passed away on November 21st, 2024, at the age of 65.

He was born on July 27th, 1959 to Forrest Rich Allred and Emily Jesgwin Carlson Allred in Provo, Utah. He was the fifth of nine children. He spent his younger years in Springville, UT, Greely, CO, Bellavue, WA, and finally in Aberdeen, SD. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1977.

After a year of studies at Brigham Young University, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Japan Fukuoka Mission from 1978-1980. Upon returning from his mission, Phillip met Julie Ruml. They were married in the Jordan River Temple on January 16th, 1982. He graduated with a Bachelors degree from BYU in 1984 and received his JD from BYU Law School in 1988. He practiced law for one year with his brother, Forrest, in South Dakota. However, he took interest in computers in his college years, and he left the law practice in 1989 to work for WordPerfect in Orem, UT. He later became CIO for law schools in both Houston, TX, and Brooklyn, NY. His last years of work were spent in IT at Snow College in Ephraim, UT.

Phillip happily filled callings in the Church throughout his life. He served in the nursery, Young Men’s, Scouting, and the Bishopric, as well as on the High Council and as Stake Young Men’s President, Bishop, and Elder’s Quorum President.

Phillip had a lifelong love of and talent for music. His tenor voice and ability to play and teach many instruments were a blessing to those around him, and he enabled and inspired his family members to carry on his musical traditions.

Phillip was a gentle, kind-hearted man with a sense of humor. His character included an intellect, curiosity, and love of learning, and a humility of spirit and love and acceptance of others. While he was a gifted teacher, he also was self-taught in many respects. Most importantly, his wife and children remember him for fulfilling best his most important roles, that of husband and father, and disciple of Jesus Christ.
